CNBC fails at reporting…again Jim Cramer is involved

Elections, Politics No Comments

CNBC isn’t exactly a shining example of responsible journalism.  The financial news network has been ridiculed for enabling the financial crisis with flawed reporting and fawning coverage of failed CEOs.

Well, CNBC is at it again.  Yesterday, CNBC’s Jim Cramer and Erin Burnett made a ridiculous, irresponsible statement.  Cramer and Burnett compared the aftermath of Iran’s recent election to what would happen under the Employee Free Choice Act.

Huh?

This is the height of irresponsible journalism.  Jim Cramer and Erin Burnett need to hear from you now about their reckless reporting.

Click here to send an email directly to Cramer and Burnett.  They need to get the message that this kind of coverage is unacceptable.

Here’s what Burnett and Cramer said yesterday while discussing the Iran election:

BURNETT: And it wasn’t a secret ballot. I think that’s important. They’re going to know - they know everybody and how they voted.
    CRAMER: Absolutely.
BURNETT: It makes a strong point for this whole union conversation we’re having in this country.
CRAMER: The card check, the card check.

Let’s get our facts straight.

Despite Erin Burnett’s delusions otherwise, the Employee Free Choice Act does not take away the secret ballot.   To suggest otherwise is just plain wrong.

But to extend that delusion to the Iran election is more than inaccurate.  It’s irresponsible.  It has no place in our national dialogue, and CNBC needs to know that.

Let Erin Burnett and Jim Cramer know what you think.  Click here to send them an email now.

Burnett and Cramer need to know that today’s union elections are undemocratic.  They bear no resemblance to democratically-held elections that we would all recognize in a free country.

The Employee Free Choice Act is an important piece of legislation that reforms the rigged system that prevents employees from having a free choice to improve their lives. The aftermath of the Iran election is proof of what happens when voters don’t have a free choice, when the deck is stacked against the electorate.

For some reason, CNBC doesn’t understand the difference.  Make sure they do.

Send a message to Erin Burnett and Jim Cramer now.

Dear MoveOn member,

Congress is voting on the big energy bill next week. But the latest
version of the energy bill would repeal a key part of the Clean Air
Act1–arguably the most important environmental law in American history.

Big coal companies want to revoke President Obama’s authority to crack
down on global warming pollution from their dirty power plants–and
they’re on the verge of winning.

If they succeed, the oldest and dirtiest coal plants could keep destroying
the climate for years to come. And this change could pave the way for 100
new coal plants, which would pollute our communities with smog, soot,
mercury, and global warming pollution.2

The big vote is next week. Can you tell Congress not to repeal this Clean
Air Act provision? Clicking here will add your name:

The petition says: “Congress must not repeal the Clean Air Act provision
that empowers President Obama to crack down on dirty coal plants.”

How did this happen? For years, George W. Bush refused to use the Clean
Air Act to cut global warming pollution. But the Obama administration has
taken the first steps toward changing that, so the coal industry is
desperate to take away Obama’s authority to limit global warming
pollution. Now, coal lobbyists have forced a terrible provision into the
new energy bill–which otherwise has some good parts–to give coal plants
a pass.

If the coal industry wins, Obama would be powerless to stop hundreds of
old, dirty coal plants from spewing global warming pollution into our air.
Some of the biggest climate polluters on the planet would be let off the
hook.

Even worse, the coal industry is trying to build at least 100 more dirty
coal plants. For years, local environmental groups and the Sierra Club
have blocked these plants.3 But if this Clean Air Act provision is
eliminated, local groups may be unable to stop another generation of
dependence on dirty coal.

We got Congress’s attention in the last two weeks with a powerful
grassroots drive to fix this and other problems in the energy bill. We
made thousands of phone calls, wrote letters to local newspapers, and
delivered petition signatures in person to hundreds of congressional
offices. But we’re not there yet.

The clock is ticking down to the big vote next week, and we need to
protect the Clean Air Act. Can you click here to sign your name to the
petition?

The President’s Speech in Cairo: A New Beginning

The U.S. Chamber’s very bad lobbying day.

Politics, U.S. Law and Policy No Comments

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce really stepped in it yesterday.

The multi-million dollar corporate group flew in hundreds of CEOs and
other businesspeople to pressure your senators into doing nothing to
help working people.  But boy, did it not go well for the U.S. Chamber.

Two of their priority senators both issued public statements after
meeting with the U.S. Chamber saying that they are open to debate on
labor law reform - exactly what the U.S. Chamber is fighting against.

Let’s seize this opportunity.  Write to your senators now and let them
know that they should stand with working people, not the greedy CEOs
represented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

http://action.seiu.org/page/speakout/chamberlobbying

The U.S. Chamber is backed by some of the biggest corporations in
America.  Now they’re spending millions of dollars to stop corporations
from being held accountable.

Just yesterday the U.S. Chamber placed a newspaper ad in Washington, DC
riddled with lies, hypocrisy, and misconceptions about the Employee
Free Choice Act.  In short, they’re fighting to make sure only greedy
CEOs can have contracts - and that working people can’t.

But the U.S. Chamber’s CEO lobby day went so poorly that we a chance to
push back and make clear to the senate that working people need help -
and they need it now.

Send your message to the Senate now.
